Toby's Living Sapphire and Diamond Halo Engagement Ring

This particular K. Amani Custom story is about a year in the making. It started with young Toby coming in to speak to me about a desire he had to create a ring that matches his love which is truly unique and undeniably beautiful.

Our work together on and off over the course of a year, led to the creation of this gorgeous 2.09ct parti coloured Australian Sapphire Ring.

For those not in the know, a parti-colored sapphire is what we call a sapphire that has more than one colour immediately apparent in the body of the stone. Some thought needs to go into the cutting decisions when presented with such a piece of unique rough material. This decision can quite literally make or break the stone's beauty and therefore value.

This stone was sourced by me from Australia, and is cut in what is commonly referred to a 'mixed' oval cut - which in the case of this stone is perfect, as the yellow and blue 'shift' depending on which way the stone is viewed and light is reflected from the back facets. This is why I refer to this stone as a living sapphire. It truly looks like it's alive.

We decided to frame such a show-stopper of a stone with a vintage style milligrain halo of white diamonds, and crossover split shank band covered in laurel leaf carvings. Even the undergallery of this design (not pictured sorry, I forgot to take a photo!) features vine like, floral motifs thematically unifying the whole design.

Toby proposed on Valentine's Day. She said yes.

Congratulations Toby.
